Cap Roig, an auditorium by the sea

The Cap Roig castle complex, also known as “El Castell del Rus,” is a historicist work in Girona, Spain. The complex features a main building, a cloister, a tower, and a church, and it is protected as a cultural asset of national interest. The castle also boasts a spectacular botanical garden, considered one of the most important in the Mediterranean.

After the death of its owners, the La Caixa Foundation took ownership of the castle and commissioned a renovation project in 2017. The biggest challenge of the renovation was the construction of a new semi-buried auditorium that would allow for multiple uses without disrupting the existing environment. The La Caixa Foundation enlisted the help of the architectural firm Nitidus and seating market experts Figueras to make their vision a reality.

Figueras installed the Mutarail system with 182 seats of the Minispace 5064 model and 168 tables of the F48 model in the Cap Roig auditorium.

The compact, foldable Minispace 5064 seats are equipped with the F48 work table, which can easily transition from use to storage mode. The platform can be stopped at three different heights, making it a versatile space for conferences, concerts, and banquets.

Safety was also a top priority in the design of the system, with features such as aluminium spacers in the rails, brakes in the first row, an integrated “anti-tilt” mechanism in the rail, and a perimeter along the length of the steel platform for full protection.

Since its inauguration in June 2022, Cap Roig Castle has become a prominent venue for cultural events and corporate gatherings, preserving its architectural structure while adapting to the needs and trends of the market. Figueras has been a pioneer in the installation of retractable seats since 1990, combining technical aspects such as engineering, design, isoptics, lighting, acoustics, and audiovisuals to achieve excellence in their projects.
