FIGUERAS RENOVATES THE NIGERIAN PARLIAMENT IN THE FIRST HIGHLY COMPLEX 360º INTEGRAL PROJECT

National Assembly of Nigeria green chamber

The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, located in the city of Abuja, has undergone a complete renovation of its building. Figueras participated in the project, which encompassed both legislative chambers, the Senate, known as the Red Chamber, and the House of Representatives, known as the Green Chamber, with the aim of modernizing and improving their functionality and comfort for the legislators.

The renovation project was led by Nigerian architect Adebowale Ademo, director of the Architecture Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), with the key collaboration of Figueras Seating. Figueras not only supplied and installed the seats but also undertook the comprehensive equipping of the chambers, including tables, tiers, acoustic panels, and carpets, in a thorough 360º solutions approach.

TURNKEY COMPLEX PROJECT

One of the project’s most significant challenges was maximizing capacity and improving visibility in both chambers. To enhance the spatial dynamics and visibility, the two hemicycles were redesigned. The work involved removing the existing concrete tier and replacing it with a new tier made from a metal structure with plywood cladding. Ventilation openings and cable conduits were also incorporated into this structure.

It was necessary to design, manufacture, and install custom-made tables to adapt the tables to the curves of the hemicycle space. With an innovative design, the tables, made from oak wood, are equipped to house the audiovisual equipment essential for parliamentary work.

Another critical aspect of the project was improving acoustics, as the previous design had significant reverberation issues. Following a detailed acoustic study, panels were installed that combined materials such as wood and acoustic foam, with custom designs printed on them. In addition to improving the sound quality in the chambers, these panels bring warmth and modernity to the space, integrating screens and speakers.

Additionally, the floor was covered with three thousand square meters of carpet, in red and green colors for the respective chambers. The installation of the carpet was challenging due to the complexity of the spaces and the elements they contain. However, Figueras successfully completed this task using high-quality materials that also strictly meet sustainability and safety criteria.

RT SYSTEM FOR PARLIAMENTS

Finally, a total of 956 seats were installed, 312 in the Senate and 644 in the House of Representatives. The chosen model, the Mega RT 2315 seat, is large and ergonomically designed. Figueras’ exclusive RT system allows for 360º rotation and 170mm linear movement, both of which can be performed simultaneously. This system enables smoother interaction among legislators and ensures that the seats return to their original position once vacated, thereby maximizing the safety of the chamber.

360º SOLUTIONS

Figueras’ intervention has demonstrated its ability to tackle complex projects and provide comprehensive turnkey solutions. Thanks to this renovation, the Nigerian Parliament is now consolidated as a functional and modern space that facilitates the legislative process and the work of the nation’s representatives.
